The Halal Industry: Challenges and Opportunities in Malaysia

This business report focuses on Malaysia’s halal industry, specifically the processed food sub-sector. The growing size of the global halal industry coincides with Malaysia’s own boom in this industry. Taking advantage of this, Malaysia has positioned itself as a leader in halal standards with the aim of attaining a full-fledged halal hub status. This report highlights the voices of investors, business owners, regulators and academia to help inform potential investors of the challenges and opportunities in Malaysia’s halal industry today. An examination of past and existing challenges experienced by players within the sector was also conducted to support some of the findings highlighted by the interviews. The report concludes with remedies for investors to consider implementing should they choose to set up a halal business in Malaysia.
